One of our best-selling gemstone cabochons is the Lapis Lazuli. Lapis Lazuli is a semi-precious stone used in making magnificent jewelry pieces such as earrings, bracelets and necklaces, with a brilliant blue (usually royal blue gradient) saturation. It is a metamorphic rock composed of minerals mainly alcite, pyrite and lazurite, which is responsible for the stone’s color. Lapis Lazuli, like any other gemstones, have several varieties; and for jewelry collectors and designers, the most desirable [and usually the highest priced] are those with solid blue hues with a few grains of gold pyrite. Other varieties of the stone include those with blue hues with a few calcite veins and mottling visible, and those which contain very conspicuous patches of calcite and visible grains of pyrite. All varieties, however, are perfect to be polished into cabochons and beads, as they all make stunning pieces of jewelry-making materials.
Our Lapis cabochon collection features highly-polished Lapis stones inn different sizes and shapes--with the fancy ones including moon, lightning bolt, cylinder, letter U and many others. We also have choices for faceted and domed cabochons of this stone. Most of our cabochons in this collection come in either royal or deep blue hues with traces of gold pyrite in them, but we also have a few with small patches of both calcite and pyrite that make them beautifully-patterned. The only cabochon in this collection with large patches of calcite and grains of pyrite is the oval one that looks like a fashionably faded denim--which is just as beautiful as the varieties.
